• Abstract: Rescue workers are exposed to an increased risk of accidents. This is also confirmed by the statistics of the responsible accident insurance, according to which the number of accidents at work at the DRK has been increasing since 2011. However, many of these accidents are not only due to the dangerous work of the rescue workers, but also to avoidable unsafe behaviour. What to do?

• Abstract: In order to change behavior, one must first understand why people behave the way they do. In the area of occupational safety behaviors, the Performance Diagnostic Checklist - Safety (PDC-S) has proven useful in identifying vulnerabilities and resources that influence safe and risky employee behaviors. The checklist and its uses are presented below. As an example, the utilization of the PDC-S is presented in a project that aims to increase the occupational safety of rescue workers.
