MRM students stand in solidarity with those injured and killed in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Prof. Dr. Tanja Kleibl travelled to Mexico with eight students from the MA programme “International Social Work with Refugees and Migrants”, whilst, towards the end of the study trip, this terrible situation accelerated. We had previously attended a conference with colleagues from the Scalabrinian Center for Migratory Studies (CSEM) at the Ibo-Americana University in Mexico, Tijuana, entitled “Promoting Life at the Borders” focusing on migrants and civil society protagonism, freedom of movement, and the right to have rights for migrants. We believe that as students, lecturers and researchers, we cannot only attend and discuss the life threatening impacts of the Global Migration Regime, we need to contribute to the search for human rights based solutions in the context of increased forced migration worldwide. Consequently, we join our Ibo-Americana University colleagues’ position paper and demands in relation to the 39 killed migrants and more severely injured people, released at the March 29th 2023.
