Goals

The aim of the DAAD-funded bachelor's programme 'Social Work (Transnational)' is to impart the ability to act independently and professionally in the various fields of practice of social work. This is done on the basis of scientific knowledge and scientific methods in the national and transnational context, which connects the Arabic/Jordanian with the European/German area. In particular, the programme aims to impart professional, social and personal skills. These enable students to identify, describe, analyze and explain social problems in both geographical, cultural and linguistic contexts, as well as to develop plans of action, implement them in practice and monitor their effectiveness.

The study location is the German Jordanian University in semesters 1-4 and the THWS in semesters 5-7. The transnational approach takes into account the character of the migration society in both regions, the transnational challenges and at the same time the claim of social work to do justice to them. In doing so, one's own professional actions should always be reflected upon in relation to theory and measured against the ethical principles of professional social work.

The framework of the curriculum is the same as that of the existing Bachelor of Social Work (BSA) programme at THWS which receives approximately 300 new students each year.

Graduates of this bachelor studies can help to meet the demand for specialists in Germany on the one hand, and promote the development of the discipline and profession of social work in the Arab world on the other. They also have a wide choice of master's programmes in social work and related disciplines, especially in Germany, Europe and the Anglo-Saxon countries, globally and in Jordan.
