Dr. Nael Alami is a molecular neuroscientist whose research investigated disease mechanisms involved in motor neuron diseases. He joined Stanford University in 2014 where his research interests expanded to include global health, education technology, and the use of innovative pedagogies to address public health challenges and promotion of cultural understanding. 

 

In 2019, Dr. Alami was appointed as Provost at MUBS (Modern University for Business & Science in Lebanon), where he founded and led the Virtual Exchange Program, which draws on empirical research in the learning sciences and leverages best practices in technology design to connect students across borders to enable collaborative, cross-cultural learning.

Aimée Ghanem holds a master degree in “Social Work” and a diploma in “Monitoring & Evaluation/ project management for the UN, Governments & NGOs” and is a doctoral student at the LMU Munich. She has around 13 years’ experience in social work. As an independent consultant in Lebanon and the Middle East, she has been conducting research in Lebanon at national and regional level with local NGOs, International NGOs and UN agencies. In addition, she does monitoring and evaluation studies of EU/ US funded programs aiming to support institutional reforms in government and civil society organisations. Aimée Ghanem is also a Social Work instructor teaching Social Work interventions and coaching/ monitoring field trainings at several universities in Lebanon. Since 2018, she is part of the DAAD project collaboration between FHWS and Lebanese universities facilitating a higher education dialogue and exchange with social work students from Germany, Jordan and Lebanon.

Farah Al Hamouri holds a bachelor degree in political sciences and a master's degree in “Social Work with refugees”. She has participated in different trainings focusing on facilitation skills, helpline services, and relational needs. Through her 10+ years of experience, she worked as a university researcher and research assistant in projects aiming at increasing knowledge and developing a better academic curriculum at the universities. Since 2018, she is part of the DAAD project collaboration between FHWS and GJU facilitating a higher education dialogue and exchange with social work students from Germany, Jordan and Lebanon. 

Farah Al Hamouri is also co-establishing a professional association for Social Workers in Jordan, teaching field training for the professional diploma students in social work at the German Jordanian University, and advocating for professionalizing social work in Jordan.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mansour has a PhD in Social Psychology and two Masters in Social Work and Community Development. She worked as chair of the social work department at the faculty of public health of the Lebanese university as well as a part time professor at Haigazian University and the Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) in Beirut. She coordinated the social work program at the National Institution of Social Care and Vocational training, along with her experience in capacity building as lead trainer in Smart Centre in Lebanon. In addition to her expertise in social work, education and refugees issue, she is also active in international academic cooperation in the area of Social Work. In 2020, she took the position of Associate Professor for the Social Work program at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies in Qatar.

“Social Work in Nigeria: Milestones in an evolving landscape”

Dr. Ngozi Eucharia Chukwu is a Nigerian social work educator and researcher. In 2014, she obtained a PhD degree in Medical/Family Social work from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Since then, she has been lecturing in the Department of Social Work, UNN and at present is a Senior lecturer. She also holds a masters degree in Literature and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Literary Studies. She is one of the editors of Social Work in Nigeria: Book of Readings. Since 2017, she has been part of the collaboration between FHWS and UNN. In September 2018, she was one of the coordinators and lecturers during the summer school exchange programme of students from FHWS to UNN. In the summer semester of 2019, she was guest lecturer to FHWS and taught BSA course “dealing with diversity, inequality and precarious living conditions”, and BSA_FWPM_ course “Practical Social work in Specific Migration Practice Fields: The Nigerian Experience”. Currently, she has been an active participant in the ERASMUS+ training and teaching mobility between FHWS and UNN. Her research interests are principally public health, disabilities, social work pedagogy, maternal and child health, care of the elderly, and migration and is widely published in these areas.

Prince Agwu is an academic staff at the Department of Social Work, University of Nigeria, a Research Fellow at the Health Policy Research Group – University of Nigeria, and a Commonwealth Alumnus of the University of Dundee, UK. His research niche is in social policy, focusing on migration, health, and education. Agwu’s PhD research examines the drivers and interventions within sex work migration vis-à-vis sex trafficking in Edo State, Nigeria. He has to his credit several refereed publications and led the first published systematic review on sex work migration within the field of human trafficking. Agwu is the African Section Editor of the Social Work and Social Sciences Review (SWSSR), a Review Editor for the International Journal of Public Health (IJPH), and a reviewer for over 15 academic journals. He has attracted and participated in several funded studies by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, World Health Organisation, Health Systems Research Initiative, among others. Lastly, he is the Communication Focal Person for the African Health Observatory Platform, Nigeria National Centre.

Nma-Njoku Alexandra Chukwu holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and currently a Doctoral Student in the Department of Social Work, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with special interest in Migration and Left-Behind Family Members. She has been a Social Work Educator since 2017, teaching all undergraduate fields in Social Work. 

She is also a field work assistant where she mobilizes women and vulnerable children within various communities in Enugu State, Nigeria under Global Health Awareness and Research Foundation (GHARF).

Dr. Rajeev Kumaramkandath teaches Sociology at the CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, India. He obtained his PhD from Manipal University, India in the year 2013. He was a recipient of the Sephis scholarship from University of Amsterdam, and the GEXcel residential fellowship from Orebro University, Sweden and funded by Swedish Research Council.  He was a residential fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), Shimla before joining CHRIST in 2015. His recent publications include a co-edited volume titled "Histories of Desire: Sexualities and Culture in Modern India" from the Cambridge University Press. Besides his primary focus on gender and sexuality in postcolonial contexts he also invests considerably in areas connected to higher education, vernacular cultures, media representations and the regional histories and cultural politics. An active seeker of knowledge he is also keen in disseminating knowledge through newspapers and journals and addresses audience at different levels. In 2021 he published an article titled "Death of Language in Neoliberal Times" in the Seminar magazine and also addressed the socio-economic and political dimension of national entrance examination for medical courses.
